Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs Garmin Vivoactive; Today I'm going to compare the Garmin Vivoactive 4s to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 40 millimeter in pink gold and the Garmin Vivoactive 4s in dust rose light gold.
So I'm going to focus on the main differences between these watches and tell you which one I prefer and which one I would recommend to various types of people.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs Garmin Vivoactive 4S in terms of price
To begin with, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 40 millimeter costs 329.99 Canadian or 249.99 American, whereas the Garmin Vivoactive 4s costs 479.99 Canadian or 349.99 American.
However, because the Garmin View Active 4s has been on the market for a much longer period of time, it frequently goes on sale, and it is currently on sale as of this recording, so the prices today are 349.99 Canadian or 249.99 American.
Main differences between garmin 4s and galaxy 4
We can see on the side that it just says galaxy watch 4 and a light pink and then right here it says 40 millimeter and then on the back here it just says a couple of things like the watch can do has bluetooth wi-fi gps.
Garmin 4s vs samsung galaxy watch 4 in terms of design
There is a distinct difference in design here, as the Garmin Vivoactive 4s has a light gold bezel running across the top and two metal buttons on the side.

The Samsung Watch 4 almost has a bezel-less design because it is so thin just at the side there is nothing actually on the watch face here and this one also has two metal buttons on the side.
So these watches do share a lot of similarities, just the ones I thought were the most important, such as having a color display, built-in GPS, Bluetooth sleep tracking, and some activities they can both track.
So, in terms of bands, the garmin vivoactive 4s has an 18 millimeter band and the galaxy watch 4 has a 20 millimeter band.
There's also a difference in the holes, so the garmin vivolacta 4s watch has a lot more holes here than here, so it can definitely fit smaller wrists on this one.
Anyway, that could be a really good option for some of you who have smaller wrists. Just looking at them side by side, we can see that the galaxy watch definitely looks bigger.
They're both supposed to have a 40 millimeter case size, but this one definitely looks smaller to me.
Garmin 4s vs samsung galaxy 4 in terms of battery life
The next major difference between these watches is battery life. With my usage, I've only gotten 14 to 16 hours out of the galaxy watch while getting five to six days out of the garmin vivoactive forest.
So, in terms of comfort, I find both of them to be quite comfortable. This one, in particular, the Galaxy Watch 4, has a really soft band that feels almost silky in a way. The heart rate sensor, however, is slightly elevated, giving it a slight bump.

So when it's on your wrist, it's only the little heart rate sensor here that touches your skin, so you don't have as much kind of watch on you, and there's more airflow under there, whereas with this one, the entire area is directly on your skin, and it can definitely get sweaty at times when you're working out. In terms of display, compare the Garmin 4s to the Galaxy Watch 4.
So on the garmin vivoactive 4s, we have garmin's kind of traditional sunlight visible transfective display and this is something that's always on you know excellent battery life here this is a display that's meant to be super visible in the sunlight.
To be honest, I find it super easy to read indoors, and you don't really need to press the brightness unless it's nighttime and you need to see it in the dark, but this is a display that you know is nothing fancy, and it's certainly not an amulet.

You have true colors on here that are excellent to read in a variety of lighting situations, and on the galaxy watch 4 we have a circular super amoled display that definitely has brighter, bolder colors, but this one is a little harder to read in sunlight.
As you can see on the screen, there is a lot more reflectivity, and you know you're going to have to increase the brightness a lot more, which kills the battery.
Garmin 4s vs galaxy 4 in terms of activity tracking
So that's another difference when it comes to activity tracking; they can both track a wide range of activities and exercises, which is fantastic.
I find the metrics to be slightly more accurate here because the heart rate sensor on the Garmin Vivoactive is more accurate for us than it is on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. This one is usually off by 5 to 10%.
So I went for a walk with both of these watches and you know when I was doing brisk walking phase my heart rate was in the high 90s which was accurate here i'm getting a 96 here i'm getting a 78 which is definitely not accurate when you're basically speed walking down the street to get your cardio in.
Garmin 4s vs galaxy watch 4 in terms of interface
The next distinction is the interface, or how we use these watches, so the Galaxy Watch 4 is essentially like having a mini smartphone on your wrist.
There are a variety of apps that you can use on here. You can text people, answer phone calls, and talk to me directly from your wrist guys because there is a built-in mic.

There is a calculator app available. There are numerous options for tracking your steps on this site. your heart rate, and so on.
So it's definitely a great option for a lot of people who want that kind of smartphone experience of being able to do all that stuff, but the battery life is poor, as is typical of smartphones.
I'm talking about it not lasting the entire day, so that's the trade-off you have to make for a watch that functions more like a smartphone.
So, with the Garmin Vivoactive 4s, you can do a bunch of different things connected to your phone, such as check your messages, answer or deny phone calls, and so on.
Examine all of your notifications. You can also download some apps here, but not nearly as many as you can on the Galaxy Watch, and you can track all of your basic metrics such as steps, activities, and workouts.
The main difference here is that this one does it more accurately and has a much longer battery life, so it's more tailored to tracking your activities rather than acting like a phone.
Why is the Garmin Vivoactive 4s superior to the Samsung Galaxy 4?
So, which of these two smart watches do I prefer? I'm going to go with the Garmin vivoactive 4s. It's a smart watch that I really like. I like how it has an always-on display that looks great in sunlight and is easy to read.
I like that it has a long battery life and that you only have to charge it once a week. I'm the type of person who forgets to charge things on a daily basis.
So having this would be a no-go for me. I like that you get very accurate metrics from your workouts because I like knowing all of my data in one place.

If you're serious about your fitness metrics, you'll want accurate data that's always visible and easy to read in direct sunlight. If you don't mind having to charge your watch every day, I highly recommend the Garmin vivoactive 4s.
For those who prefer a more smartphone-like experience, you can track all of your basic metrics while talking on the phone on your watch.
Then I would recommend the Galaxy Watch for you. Either way, they are both definitely great smart watches for different types of users. It depends on what's more important to you and the experience that you're looking for from your watch.
