The design functionality of the Galaxy Watch 5 has begun to emerge, with the possibility of an expandable display being one key feature.

Samsung usually releases a new version of the watch in August, beginning with the Samsung Galaxy Watch, which was introduced in August 2018, followed by the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, which was released in August 2020, and finally the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, which was released in August 2021.

The only exception to this pattern occurred when Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch Active and followed it up with the Watch Active 2 in March and September of 2019, respectively.

One of the most intriguing rumors we've heard is that Samsung intends to release a smartwatch with a display that can be unrolled to make it larger.

Let's Go Digital reported on Samsung patent applications that show a device with a screen that can be unfurled from two standard semi circles to a pill shape, gaining 40% more space in the process.

One disadvantage is that there is a central area that isn't a display but instead acts as a touch sensitive interface and home for a camera.

This patent, along with extensive documentation, was filed at the beginning of December 2021. So it appears unlikely that it will be the samsung galaxy watch 5, but it could be a feature on its successor.
