Garmin Epix 2 VS Apple Watch Ultra

Garmin Epix 2; Today I'd like to compare the Garmin Epix2 VS the Apple Watch Ultra from the first generation. I'm just curious what the watches have in common and what the differences are, and which watch might be best for you.

Garmin Epix 2 features

The Garmin Epix 2 with an e-sim comes in two versions, the first with Gorilla Glass and a stainless steel bezel, and the second with internal memory of 16GB.

Garmin also offers a slightly more expensive version that has a sapphire glass or a titanium bezel, as well as an internal memory of 32GB.

There is the option to take music with you offline, which supports Amazon Music, Spotify, and Apple Music, which is not currently supported by Garmin.

The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters and also meets the MIL-STD 810 standard, which the Garmin Epix watches do not.

There is an LTE version, but Garmin has very few watches that support it, and LTE is not the same with Garmin as it is with Apple right now.

Apple can then make phone calls and play music. Streaming is not possible with Garmin's LTE version because it is purely a security feature, similar to a live track, which will be discussed later when the entire thing here with LTE is used.

Apple Watch Ultra features

The Apple Watch Ultra features a classic Apple Design, which we have been familiar with since the first hour of the Apple Watch.

The watch is slightly larger at 49 mm in diameter, and we have installed a titanium case as well as a Sapphire glass to protect the display.

The watch itself is also up to about 100 m waterproof and has been tested to the MILSTD 810H standard, which means we can go diving with the watch, and the classic crown has been reinstalled, which means you can use the crown to scroll through the menus or the app again.

The Apple Watch Ultra has a 32 GB internal memory, which is especially useful if you listen to music offline.

According to Apple's terms, you can program it very freely, choosing whether to start the stopwatch immediately or set a waypoint.

Companies want Apple Music, for example, or Spotify, which is also included in the Apple Watch Ultra, as well as an LTE chip.

What is also built into it is an LTE chip, which means you always have the watch in the LTE version and can then deposit your yes your mobile contract.

Garmin Epix 2 VS Apple Watch Ultra in terms of usability and displays

If we only consider usability and display, we have at least In terms of operation, the Apple Watch Ultra has a retina display with 410 x 502 pixels that is razor sharp.

The Apple Watch Ultra is primarily controlled by touch. Of course, we can still use the crown and button here to select things, but the main operation here is clearly a touch theme touch, which is fine even in the rain, especially if the watch gets really wet.

Even when it rains, the watch is very easy to use. I don't want anything to be triggered here, so this is really very good.

Because of the shape of the display, the Garmin Epix 2 has a slightly different resolution here with a pixel size of 416 x 416 pixels, but the display is also very easy to read.

Garmin's Epix 2 is another high-quality display. It can also be operated entirely by touch, but if it gets a little damp, it can sometimes cause problems, so it must be extremely wet. Although I must say that the Apple display is slightly sharper.

Garmin Epix 2 VS Apple Watch Ultra in terms of sensors

In terms of sensors, both have a pulse oximeter installed here. You can also set both clocks to measure the entire night or the entire day, which means that both watches offer according to the Blue Oxygen.

A barometric altimeter was then installed for both watches to measure altitude, which the Epix 2 does not have.

The Apple Watch Ultra remains an ECG measuring device that you can use accordingly.

Measure your ECG with your finger and get a display of whether you have a pre-fibrillation, but keep in mind that this is not a medical device and you should use it with caution.

If you hold down the right button on the Apple Watch Ultra for an extended period of time, you will be able to activate a siren.

Messages arrive informing you that you should see a doctor immediately. I'm not aware of any sports watches or watches in general that do this now. The siren will also become louder as it runs.

The Apple Watch Ultra also has fall detection, which means that if you do a workout and fall, the entire thing is recognized and your emergency call is triggered or called.

The Epix 2 now not only has an emergency call feature, but it also has a fall detection feature for cycling, walking, and running.

Epix 2 provides a so-called live track, which is when everything is set up and you have saved an emergency contact and started an activity.

The contact will receive an email and will be able to see where you are on the way and when you walked. If you have also planned a route, the contact will be displayed, and you can then plan to run from there.

Apple Watch Ultra VS Garmin Epix 2 in terms of battery life

The battery life of the Apple Watch Ultra ranges between two and a half and three days. The pulse oximeter and the 24/7 measurement are both turned on.

It is possible to extend an activity from about an hour and a half to two and a half to three days.

With the Epix 2 on the way, I'll be using the same settings, which means a full setting and one workout lasting an hour and a half, as well as a running time of three to five days.

Of course, we have the option here to enable an energy-saving mode; if you enable it in general, the heart rate measurement is also disabled.

The Apple Watch has an internal battery that can last up to four days. The watch can be charged in an energy-saving mode as well. The intriguing question at this point is how long the watches will last.

The Epix 2 is equipped with always-on GPS and maximum GPS, i.e. multi-band. I can also get GPS on a 15-hour run with the Apple Watch Ultra turned on all the time. Maximum use here is about 12 hours on time, which is when the clocks separate by about three hours.

Garmin Pay v Apple Pay

By now everyone is supported by Apple Pay, so you can sometimes pay with Apple Pay at the smallest bakery here.

Garmin offers Garmin pay here but Garmin pay is very limited, we now have a few banks here in Germany support all of them at all.

The most common banks are actually not represented here at all, so that you cannot pay for it everywhere.

The Apple watch Ultra is really very very good in Apple's ecosystem integrated that means, for example, even if you use airpots if they transmit directly or Apps also have a direct connection here. So you are definitely included Apple pay better off if that's an important factor for you.

Comparison of the two watches in terms of Apps

Apple Watch Ultra also has an AppStore, so I don't think you need to do anything special with Apple because everyone who owns an iPhone is already familiar with the App Store.

There are a plethora of apps available here from various manufacturers; we'll get back to why that's important later. There is currently no suitable location for third-party manufacturers to install a dial.

You could offer directly through Apple, and then you are appropriate if he doesn't have any here want to use other things rely a little more on Apple's own dials become than before, but it is still significantly less at Garmin.

Garmin also has its own Garmin AppStore called Garmin Connect IQ where you can download data fields as well as clock apps, but it is very manageable and has no comparison to the Apple App Store.

The watch faces available here are both from Garmin, which always provides some aftermarket support, and from third-party manufacturers.

Comparison of the two watches in terms of features

So that you can truly personalize your watch Both watches also provide an enormous number of workouts and sports, including the classics like running and cycling, but Triathlon is also supported by both watches.

The watches also provide watt measurement, specifically watt measurement wrist, so the whole thing is only now with a new one with the Epix 2 addition of an update.

There is also a watt measurement here in the wrist can that is interesting, particularly for people who are out and about in the hilly area and don't want to train for heart rate or pace.

The Epix offers the same thing as the Apple watch ultra but without a Additional device. Ground contact times or step length are also displayed live.

The vertical movement could also be displayed graphically you then adjust accordingly in the data field and we can do the evaluation accordingly do it directly while running, this is not the case with the Apple Watch ultra.

It is still possible to store graphic fields or diagrams on the Epix 2. You can now see a graphical representation of your heart rate zone if an altitude profile or watt values are displayed while running.

When it comes to workouts, Garmin Connect works a little better if you already have it with the Epix 2. Take a closer look at everything; the Apple Watch ultra provides an overview of the run in the fitness app, which you can revisit.

The Garmin watch comes with a virtual trainer for running and cycling. The Apple Watch ultra is recommended for daily workouts.

A competition widget can be used to practice for an upcoming event. Other sports, such as triathlons and marathons, can also benefit from the use of the watch.

Apple Fitness is a new fitness app for the Apple Watch. You can create your own workouts and complete everything for a monthly fee.

There is also a range of plans that you can choose from and have exercise for strength training or for yoga or for cycling or Pilates etc.

The great strength of the Garmin can of course be carried out here, the sports area that means there where the weaknesses of the smartphones are.

In addition to the competition witch, which I have already mentioned, is the so-called training status Widget that gives you an overview of your current training status build up their form Build up the form be overloaded or not.

What's the best sports Apple Watch Ultra vs Garmin Epix 2

Image showing a comparison between Garmin Epix 2 VS Apple Watch Ultra in terms of battery life

The training readiness widget provides a quick overview of whether you should train today or not. Then you get an overview of your VO2 max or even a running prognosis that shows how yours is doing.

A 5 - 10 km or half marathon prognosis is a marathon, and it is extremely accurate. The Apple Watch Ultra provides nothing in this form or from the watch itself.

The data is all here, as Apple has included it, so you could make something out of it, but as I previously stated, Apple bit nothing. There are excellent step-up provider apps available, such as Healthfit, but they are not free.

The basic version of the Apple Watch Ultra includes this option. Navigating Apple Maps implies that you can search for an address, restaurant, or other location and be directed there. The disadvantage here is that there are no turn-by-turn directions and the screen goes into sleep mode.

The Apple Watch Ultra also has a backtracking function, which means that if you're on the road now and you've walked a path, namely back to your destination, the whole thing could be here start accordingly using the clock and then you can run back using the compass.

The Garmin Epix 2 has this function as well, but only within the context of the workout. The Garmin Epix 2 also has the ability to display ski maps. Both watches provide the option all over the place.

WLAN as well as Bluetooth are installed on both devices to connect. An ANT+ is also added, which means that ANT+-enabled devices cannot be connected to the Apple Watch Ultra unless they have Bluetooth.

Comparison of the two watches in terms setting

As previously mentioned, the Garmin Epix 2 makes it very simple to connect chest straps via ANT + and Bluetooth.

Only the Epix2 supports speed sensors from bicycles, cadence sensors, and power measurement with the Apple Watch Ultra and Garmin devices. I can only do one thing in the basic setting or in basic mode with the bluetooth strap.

Apple Watch Ultra VS Garmin Epix 2 in terms of GPS

Both watches provide an excellent solid and very good GPS image. Of course, this is not a problem on free falls or even in the woods.

I can say yes to the Apple Watch ultra economy mode and get it here either the one GPS image here with the Garmin Epix 2 or the different GPS image here.

The Apple Watch Ultra is clearly the best performer in this category. In this regard, the Garmin Epix 2 provides comparable value to its predecessor models. However, the Fenix â€'6 falls far short of the Apple Watch Ultra.

The Apple Watch Ultra was close to the chest strap values here, whereas the Epix 2 was far away. On previous runs, however, the Apple watchUltra provides a much clearer picture than the Garmin Epix2.

Garmin Epix 2 vs Apple Watch Ultra Which one should you get?

The Apple Watch Ultra is an excellent SmartWatch. With the Garmin Epix 2, we get a very, very good Sports watch, and you can see that the emphasis here is on sports rather than travel SmartWatch because I can't make a phone call right now.

When it comes to sports, Apple has already done a lot with the update with the watch OS 9, but there is still a lot to be done, such as connecting a bike or power meter directly here or more analysis data or more analysis are given to hand, but I have through this strong App Store.

Garmin Epix 2 and Apple watch ultra have different design features. Both have built-in GPS, but the Epix watch has a built in heart rate monitor.

The Epix has an annual fee that you have to add to the watch, which you don't do with the Apple watch.

I hope I was able to give you a flavor of the Apple Watch Ultra or the Garmin Epix 2 and demonstrate the differences or similarities. In the comments section, please leave your question or comment.
